âZandria, hey baby itâs mom. Please call me back when you get this.â My mother said to my voicemail. Rolling my eyes I dropped the phone on my bed. It had been a few weeks and I still hadnât spoken to my parents. I honestly had no intention of doing so either. They chose their side and it damn sure wasnât mine.
DJ called a few times to make sure I was okay. I appreciated the gesture but I was more determined than ever to get my law degree and make a life for myself. It was only a matter of time before they used their money to intimidate me into answering their calls; which is why I had been applying for scholarships just in case I got rejected from the bank of Arnette. Thankfully I had some brains to back up these good looks.
âYour parents again?â Raylin asked.
âYes, I wish theyâd stop calling. Iâm not going to pick up.â
âAre you going to ignore them forever?â
âI donât know,â I replied honestly. I didnât want to but I also didnât see how we could move forward.
âWhy donât you tell them how you feel?â
âThey already know Raylin. Thereâs nothing left to talk about.â
âWhat are you going to do if they stop paying your tuition?â
âIâll get a job,â I shrugged. It wasnât ideal but listening to my father question me after I told him what happened made me sick to my stomach.
âIâm proud of you for standing your ground.â
âThank you.â
âHeyyyy the party has arrived!â Kapri yelled as Maddy opened the door.
Tonight was Coopâs first game back so everybody came up to give him some support. It had been a long road but I couldnât wait to see him get on the court. I watched highlights from his games at McEachin pre injury but I never witnessed him play live. I was excited to get that opportunity tonight and be there to support him.
Shameik strolled in behind Kapri and I could tell Raylinâs demeanor immediately shifted at the sight of him. I wished she would take her own advice and talk about how she felt with him but I gave up that fight. Raylin could be as stubborn as a mule when she wanted to be.
âWassup yall,â Shameik greeted us all with hugs. I had to admit I watched his interaction with Ray out of the corner of my eye. He hugged her the same way he did everybody else but she hit him with the church pat, ducking underneath his arm ending it quickly.
âWe need to get over to the gym. The game is about to start soon, weâre going to be late waiting on yall,â I fussed. Thankfully Ms. Moira was already there and holding seats for us otherwise I wouldâve left their ass. I needed to have a good seat to watch my baby do his thing tonight.
âFucking around with Kapri we left late,â Shameik fussed.
âItâs not my fault yo ass donât know how to drive,â Kapri fired back.
âDriving ainât the problem, itâs the stopping yo ass kept making me do.
